Gaining Ground at the Bottom Bulb Bash

The Bottom Bulb Bash took place at our home track, US 131 Motorsports Park. This is a big weekend for Jr dragsters as it is not only a big money paying race but is also part of their points series at the track.

After having so many issues with the cars the last time we were out, we made a few changes to both of the cars. Therefore, we arrived at the track on Thursday night to take part in the Test & Tune. Everything seemed to go well on Thursday and we were optimistic about the weekend ahead.

Bo's Weekend Recap
Friday was rather eventful with us chasing some new issues in Bo's car. We put a new intake on his car in preparation for the weekend and it wasn't running quite right. We chased the issue most of the day but Bo was still able to participate in both a Jr Combo race as well as an 8.90 Index race. He lost 3rd round in the combo race. However, he was the number one qualifier in the index race, earning him the bye run first round. On his bye run we had some major issues with his new intake coming loose, allowing the motor to suck air and not letting it run. Luckily he was able to stage it up and "just take the tree" so he could get his win. Unfortunately, Bo lost second round due to a bad reaction time.

After struggling on Friday to get the car to respond with the new intake we made some carburetor adjustments and got the car dialed in for Saturday's race. With the car running more consistent, our driver was able to shine and he made his way to the semi-finals, putting him in the money.

With the excitement of Saturday, Bo was ready to get a little more aggressive with his driving. He decided that he wanted to "play the long end", which is a much more strategic way of driving the finish line. Unfortunately, Sunday didn't turn out as well as Saturday. Bo lost a very close race first round and bought back only to lose another close race second round.

Amanda's Weekend Recap
Thursday's Test & Tune went well, even getting a new fastest time, 7.33 in the 1/8th, since owning the wagon. However, the remainder of the weekend was a struggle for the driver, even though the car performed well. After struggling in previous outings to remember to turn on the air bottle for the shifter, Amanda didn't trust it this weekend, despite it being turned on. This resulted in multiple runs being aborted early because she messed up shifting the car. Therefore, Amanda was out second round or earlier every day. On a positive note, with the changes that were made to the wagon it now leaves with one wheel in the air. With a few suspension adjustments we hope to leave with both wheels in the air next year.

Our next outing will be Labor Day weekend, back at US 131 Motorsport Park. We are hopeful that Marc and his Lincoln Mark VII will make their season debut.
